Antique Limoges Violet Dresser or Vanity Tray: This is an antique porcelain dresser or vanity tray from Limoges, France. It was most probably taken to a private studio to be painted by an independent artist. The image is a popular hand painted violet floral motif, popular during the Victorian & Edwardian periods, late 19th, early 20th century. The flowers are painted in shades of purple, lavender, & green, on a soft blended background of pale blue & green, called 'grounding'. A gold gilded rim provides a subtle decorative element with the letter 'J' in a field of violets. It was probably customized for the owner, possibly as a gift. The tray has a rectangular shape, with scalloped corners, gilded in gold. As a dresser table, it may have held perfumes or jewelry. The tray measures approx 11" x 8". The tray is in excellent condition considering it's age.
