It is as waterproof and tough as a good shell, but with the cold weather protection of a down jacket. There are lots of well thought out pockets, and Bonfire's great hood and collar, and good venting makes it fine if the sun comes out. Unless it is so cold your binding ratchets stop working, you can ride with just a thermal under it too. The only down-side is that is relatively heavy in the hand - but it never feels heavy when you are wearing it. It is not light like a pertex shell down, but it is tough so you can bash through tree branches and not worry about tearing it.
