A collection of works featuring the earliest series by Italian photographer Gusmano Cesaretti, also known for his collaboration with the fashion brand "COOTIE." This book was published in conjunction with the eponymous exhibition held at LITTLE BIG MAN GALLERY (USA) in 2017-2018.
Having taught himself photography in California, Gusmano began documenting the community of East Los Angeles in the early 1970s. After meeting members of the car club "Klique," he was captivated by the unconventional lifestyle unique to the area, such as graffiti and lowrider culture. He continued to document not only lowriders but also the entire community and the lives of the people who lived there.
The rough, monochrome photographs, developed in a unique style, capture the complexity of life inherent in people, places, and their relationships, creating an emotional contrast with the subjects' true selves.
