I only wore this once and got tons of compliments and questions. The Sankofa bird is a symbol from the Akan people of Ghana that means "to go back and get it" or "look to the past to inform the future". It is depicted as a mythical bird with its head turned backward, looking at its own tail, while flying forward. The symbol represents the importance of learning from and respecting the past to move forward constructively. The leather necklace is 20”. The brass bird measures 4x3.5 inches. In excellent condition.
